OUR APPROACH TO SUSTAINABILITY

SOCKFORT™ is committed to treading both comfortably and lightly on our planet.

The quality and sustainability of our product remains our ultimate focus. We aim to produce only the best product, with minimal impact on our planet's well-being.

Our primary product consists of two production components. The sock is produced from a premium bamboo charcoal fibre and spandex blend. The gaiter is produced from recycled polyester.

We've refined our design and production to ensure the sustainability of both components is maximised - produced using only the best, to produce the best for your feet.

Treading lightly with bamboo

ORIGINS

Bamboo is a fast growing and naturally renewable tree-like grass. It is a low maintenance plant. It does not need the protection of pesticides or herbicides, and requires very little water.

It is regularly referred to as a super plant due to its sustainability, strength (it is stronger than steel) and positive environmental attributes as a raw material.

Bamboo is actually a grass, not a tree. As such, the fibre has no weak points. This makes it stronger and more durable than any other materials used to produce socks.

Through the process of accelerated photosynthesis, bamboo absorbs our planet's environmental nemesis - carbon dioxide, and produces clean oxygen.

GROWTH

Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the planet. It can grow up 90 cm (3 ft) per day, depending on the variety. Growing to full maturity only takes one to five years, which makes bamboo an extremely renewable resource.

As a colony plant, it uses its energy to expand its roots and grow more shoots in the spring. These shoots emerge out of the ground to grow taller and wider for around 60 days. After 60 days, the canes stop growing and energy is directed back to the roots for the development of new canes.

This is where bamboo differs from most flora, which put energy into continued growth of the original stem. Once bamboo is established, typically after three years, the new shoots that emerge each spring will continue to grow.

REGENERATION

One newly planted bamboo plant can sequestrate up to two tonnes of carbon dioxide in just seven years - five times greater than pine. When exhaling, bamboo creates 35% more oxygen than the same volume of trees.

Cutting bamboo stimulates growth. How does this work? Well, rather than directing energy towards regaining its lost height, a cut bamboo stalk will simply unfurl new leaves. In turn, these leaves create and send energy down to the root system to encourage the growth of new shoots.

The more that gets harvested, the faster it grows. This makes bamboo an incredible renewable resource that will regrow naturally. With so many environmental benefits, it was the obvious choice for SOCKFORT™.
